Employing more than 6,800 people, the Waitemata District Health Board provides secondary hospital and community services throughout Auckland’s North Shore and Waitakere districts.
Woods has a long-standing relationship with Waitemata Health and in 2016, they asked Woods to help enable the design and build of a new pedestrian bridge at North Shore Hospital. They asked us to survey existing buildings, infrastructure and ground surfaces to enable the design of an elevated 90-metre pedestrian bridge to connect the elective surgery building to the main hospital building. We suggested 3D laser scanning to create a three-dimensional model compatible with the designer’s software.
Approximately 20 scans were taken from different locations inside and outside of the buildings This enabled Waitemata to design the pedestrian bridge thanks to an accurate three-dimensional model of the buildings it will connect to.
