Expanding our horizons – How investing in technology enables us to create and deliver better communities.

When I think about creating and delivering better communities, it is about building better houses, but also providing places for children to play and for people to integrate. The developments we work in are not just housing developments, they are communities for people to live in. The design in our developments must enhance other modes of transport so that people can safely walk and cycle in the community to get out and meet other people and feel like they are part of a community.

Our position at the forefront of technology not only enables us to create and deliver better communities but also enables us to enhance the experience for the people involved.

Generally speaking, people are not able to read and understand 2D plans. The advancements in technology allow us to produce 3D plans that clearly show affected parties the changes that will happen in their community. We can now show people the different impacts in their community throughout the development process of a project so they can better visualise the community they are going to live in.

Internally, our use of technology has allowed us to integrate the individual disciplines at Woods more cohesively, enhance communication internally and externally, and better understand the client or end-user experience. Staff can see an overview of not just their part of a project and their outputs in a graphical way, but also the work involved in the overall project.

We are always looking for ways we can be more efficient, enhance communication, provide new and exciting tools for our staff to develop skills, and engage everyone in the process. This gives us a competitive advantage but also allows staff to bring ideas to the table that I never would have thought of.

Woods has always invested heavily in technology and will continue to in the future. It is a massive part of our vision, and it has allowed us to attract and retain talented staff in a competitive industry. We are seen as a progressive, forward-thinking company that is not stuck in the same old way of doing things. We are investing in new technology and ideas to expand our horizons and people want to be a part of that.
