Woods form part of the key development team as the lead consultant of this major project, transforming the 110 hectare former quarry in Auckland’s Mt Wellington into an integrated residential development providing more than 2,900 dwellings for over 6,500 people. A range of planning and infrastructure issues have had to be addressed in this major Brownfield development, involving our team members working closely with local authorities, the regional council and all major utility providers. Woods are undertaking the planning, earthworks and civil infrastructure design for the project including upgrading to existing roading networks, new roading networks, water, stormwater and wastewater design. As part of the project's sustainable design Woods have been responsible for the design and implementation of a comprehensive Stormwater Management Plan. The key elements of this plan are the re-use of stormwater via a ‘third-pipe’ system and an extensive wetland system. The third pipe system will recycle stormwater for use in toilets and garden irrigation of all dwellings within the development. Construction commenced on the site in 2002 and from that date Woods have been responsible for project managing earthworks and infrastructure construction for each stage of the development, including obtaining necessary compliance documentation. After 8 years of involvement with the design, construction and compliance phases of this project, the completion of the final stages is expected on 2010. |
