Pacific Point

Woods are part of the development team working to transform a 26 hectare peninsula and 10 hectare seabed reclamation into 162 mainland residential lots and 76 lot canal style residential lots. The canal development will provide owners with direct access to mooring for their boat. There will also be a 100 bed 5 star hotel, 60 berth marina, yacht club, 50 unit apartment complex and shopping precinct in the commercial area of the development. The site is located 30 kilometres west of Suva and was selected for its access to deep sea game fishing 15 minutes from the resort.

Woods were initially engaged to verify the earthworks volumes for the project based upon a design completed by a local Fijian consultancy. Following a site visit and after meeting with various stakeholders, Woods identified a host of issues not the least of which were lost commercial opportunities in terms of yield due to poor urban design wasting valuable land.

A complete re-scheme and restructure of the project by Woods has resulted in an additional 32 lots and a reduction in the earthworks volumes of approximately 400,000 cubic metres. This met the developer's requirements, satisfied local planning rules and dramatically improved the look and feel of the development. Woods subsequently carried out all of the infrastructure design and coordinated various other aspects of the project as required, with specialist input in areas such as geotechnical engineering and reservoir design.

The final stages of the development are scheduled for completion in 2011.
