Occupying a prime coastal position on the northern fringe of Auckland's North Shore, Long Bay is the site of a proposed new urban development. With a view to creating one of New Zealand's premier urban communities, Woods has become a major contributor to the Long Bay Structure Plan and Catchment Management Plan. We have been intimately involved with the project since 2003 providing professional services in urban design, engineering design, topographical and cadastral survey, resource planning, erosion and sediment control, stormwater management, infrastructure analysis and earthworks design. Woods’ involvement in the planning and resource management of the development has resulted in the Client almost doubling the developable area from what was originally proposed by Council. Woods has also been responsible for the comprehensive stormwater catchment analysis of the site developing hydraulic models for the Awaruku and Vaughan’s stormwater catchments, having areas of 282 and 365 hectares respectively. Flood limits have been defined using advanced 1D-2D modelling methods, while option analyses have been undertaken to investigate the best design for the large scale community wetlands and secondary stormwater systems to achieve the objectives of the Long Bay Structure Plan. Long Bay is a project that is still in the design phase however environmentally sensitive urban design is at the core of Long Bay's master plan, with the rehabilitation of degraded wetlands and water corridors of paramount importance to the future live-ability of the proposed urban community. |
